MORE INFORMATION ON RIO
Rio was rescued by our partner association Refugio San Anton Moron and has sadly been in kennels with them for a few years now. This is through no fault of his own but is sadly the reality for many podencos in Spain, they are just overlooked. He was found with another dog named Tokyo, and their litter of puppies. Their puppies have all found loving homes but unfortunately Rio is still waiting.
On our fist visit, Rio was a bit of a slow burner and was very shy and nervous when we approached his kennel. However, when approached one on one he came to us and had a lovely sniff and a stroke. We could see from his interactions with the staff he knows and trusts that he was very affectionate, and seeks out their attention for a fuss from them. We have since been back multiple times and seen a huge improvement with Rio as the staff have dedicated extra time and walks for him to help him grow in confidence.
Our team member Gemma recently paid him a visit and this is what she said:
This boy is so gentle and sweet. He is still shy at times but is curious and will do ANYTHING for sausages - they are definitely the key to his heart. Rio will progress much more quickly in a home with one on one time for such a special boy.
So we know that all he needs is time to come around, someone to introduce him to the big world slowly and show him that he is always safe now. Rio will be one of those dogs that are SO rewarding when you bring them round and we can’t wait to see him really blossom in a rural home with another dog to give him that extra boost!
Rio is neutered, vaccinated and tested negative for all Mediterranean diseases, excluding Leish - as already stated he has previously tested positive but with treatment is now presenting as negative. He is passported and available for adoption now.
