MORE INFORMATION ON BLANCA
Blanca had sadly been overlooked in one of our partners shelters for nearly 3 years, as we find is the case with lots of Podencos in Spanish shelters. Blanca came over to the UK for foster in March, and has been blossoming in the home as she adjusts to life as a pet.
Blanca has a lovely calm nature and enjoys a snooze on the sofa throughout the day, but she also thrives with access to the outside and loves being in the garden, so thats a must for her in any permanent home. She is great out and about on a walk and gets a lot from getting to meet other dogs and sniff about in the grass. She will need doggy playmates in the home as we think this has helped her confidence grow and we are seeing a very playful side to her now. She has become quite the toy hunter and does play with them to entertain herself when her humans are out of the home - she has been left for a few hours on occassion, albeit with other dogs for company.
She has come on in leaps and bounds and is particularly food motivated which has helped with training and getting her used to new things. She will sometimes take bigger treats off her humans and retreat a little before eating them, so she can still have moments where she is a little shy, particularly when people are standing. But once seated, she is not shy asking for a fuss and tummy tickle is she’s in her safe spaces such as the sofa or bed.
She has been cat tested so is considered cat workable for the right match, but she can still shy away form younger children so we think as she is still progressing we would be looking for a home with no children or older children only.
Blanca is neutered, vaccinated, and tested negative for all Mediterranean diseases. She is passported and available for adoption now. As noted above, she has hyperextension in her front legs (hocks), this is not causing her any pain or distress at present and she will come with orthotics to help with her little flat feet. This may require treatment in the future, but for now she enjoys the same quality of life as any other young dog.
